About
WVLG began life as WHOF. Here is a partial history.
1987-Jim Patrick moved to Lake County in 1982 after selling his coal mining companies in eastern Kentucky. He retired for three years before investing in broadcasting. The station, which is licensed to Wildwood had its studio in Leesburg The station broadcasts 24 hours a day with 1,000 watts of power. It operated under the call letters WMZY in the summer of 1988 because of the station's proposed sale. The letters WHOF were brought back when the sale was dropped. Patrick's first radio experience was with two Leesburg partners, Gene Smith and Dr. Larry Lammers, who owned WHOF-AM 1320. Patrick bought out his partners in March of 1987 and switched the dial setting to 640.
